Mounting

An important part of any frame design is the mounting - whether it’s to protect, to enhance or even to display multiple artworks in one frame. From a traditional ‘window cut out’, to a more contemporary style ‘floating mount’, the atmosphere of a finished piece can be delicately influenced to suit your needs and, more importantly, the needs of the artwork. We can help you find a solution that simultaneously protects and elevates your work, showcasing it in its best possible light.

Dry Mounting

Through the use of a vacumn press, dry mounting will adhere your image to an acid-free foam core board. For various reasons, such as time, storage or humidity, your artwork can be damaged. This is more often the case with paper works, but dry mounting is a valuable asset in reducing these imperfections. Whilst not always 100% reversible, this mounting option and process will greatly remove any bends, creases, or curls that may be apparent in your art work.

Another reason to dry mount a piece is if your artwork has been stored in a tube for an extended period of time. Dry mounting will smooth out the curl in your artwork.

The best way to determine whether your image requires restorative dry mounting is to arrange a consult with our team.

Float Mounts

Float mounting is a technique used in order to rest, or ‘float’ the artwork above the backing board, allowing all the edges of the to be seen, and in some cases to provide a slight shadow effect. This option is a particularly beautiful way to elevate the original nature of the artwork, and to showcase any unique features, such as a deckled edge. The subtle appearance of ‘floating’ allows the viewer to focus on the art work encased within the frame.

At Omnus, we achieve this look by using our pH Neutral, 100 % cotton rag mount boards and our acid-free gummed paper and tissue tapes. Our expertise in archival framing ensures your work is protected for the all aspects of the highly variable Australian environment.

Box Framing

A ‘Box Frame’ is used when we need a deeply set frame to display 3D objects or multi-layer artworks. Available in our range of hand-finished timbers as well as pre-finished mouldings and veneer options.

The inside of the frame is lined with Museum Grade mount board creating a ‘spacer’ - this keeps the glass at the front of the frame whilst allowing the object to sit back without touching the glass.

A Box Frame can also help project an artwork out from the wall, perfect for a recessed walls or to sit above wide furniture. They are also an ideal option for small photo frames - their wider depth allowing them to sit on their own without the need for standbacks!

With simple, clean lines, the viewer is drawn to focus on the artwork. Natural wood, black or white frames will provide a contemporary, yet safe, choice. Timber textured frames are also great for works that have to be transported, as they allowing for easier touch up’s should they be accidentally scratched.

We also offer a range of acrylic glazing options to reduce weight and risk of breaking - this is an excellent choice for large-scale works.

At Omnus we hold a vast understanding of professional standard hanging requirements. Please do not hesitate to talk to us about how your work will be hung or what your gallery requires.
